One organizing trick I use to maintain some modicum of order around my house, is to do ten things before I either leave my house or before I go to bed.
For example, if I’m running errands (I don’t have to be anywhere specific at a designated time), I’ll simply wander around my house and put away, clean or do ten things before I walk out the door. Maybe I’ll fold a load of clothes (no, you can’t count each sock), unload and reload the dishwasher, scour the kitchen sink, and wipe off the bathroom mirror — that’s five right there! Add filing a couple of receipts and tossing some junk mail, and I’m done.
Occasionally, I’ll do this before I crash and burn for the night as well.
I try to let this take no more than 15 minutes, and sometimes it takes far less, depending on what I select.
Point being — it just feels so much better to wake up or come home to a house that’s just that tiny bit more organized.
